Spondylosis refers to the degeneration of the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (lower back) sections of the spine.
Spondylosis is a degenerative disease affecting the joints of the vertebrae (bones of the spine), intervertebral discs and surrounding ligaments and tissues. There may be localised spinal pain or stiffness. Pain, numbness or tingling may also radiate down your leg or arm due to nerve root pressure from associated protruding discs or osteophytes (bony formations around affected joints).
Spondylosis, which is sometimes called spinal arthritis, is considered to be damage to the spine which is usually associated with age, showing the wear and tear on vertebrae and discs that has accumulated over the years. From my observation, these degenerated areas are usually very stiff and often quite distorted or not well lined up with the spinal bones above or below. Nearby muscles are usually very tight.
Cervical spondylosis can show as pain in the neck, top of the shoulders and base of the skull. Lumbar spondylosis affects the lower back and can show as pain, stiffness and eventually a crooked stance.
Network Chiropractic treatment may help ease the pain you are feeling and give you back some of the mobility of your spinal joints. Regular treatment may also slow the rate of degeneration, reducing pain and discomfort.
Network chiropractic is a very gentle treatment which does not involve applying force to these already stressed and damaged joints.
Instead, Network uses a system of light touches at special points along the spine. The touch sends messages to the brain, activating the body’s healing abilities. Spinal cord (nervous system) tension is released which naturally allows the muscles and ligaments around the affected area to relax and balance. The spine softens and straightens, though, in some cases, the degeneration has progressed to an extent that only limited improvement is possible. But, in this situation, it is very important to optimise the state of the rest of the spine to reduce abnormal strain and weight bearing which are known to contribute to the cause and progression of the spondylosis.
That’s why it is so important to seek appropriate care for this condition as soon as you become aware of it. Or even better, have your spine checked and corrected by a Network chiropractor to help prevent the condition from developing.
When the tension and strain of the muscles and tissues around the painful area is released, the joint or spine is better able to achieve alignment and balance.
If you are suffering from spondylosis I know you will be tired of living with pain and restricted movement (disability). Our job is to help you get your life back, and be able to move better with less or no pain.
